Literally, “to make the curious talk”—the French’s notorious explain-all reason given to account for why things are the way they are, without really explaining anything. Often used as a snappish comeback to questions posed by inquisitive children who just won’t shut up. Generally emphasized with a shrug and at least one contemptuously raised eyebrow.

Don't worry, Jimmy. Even if we had billed the time, since we didn't get a Christmas party this year we'd still have come out ahead. As it stands, we merely donated a few hours of our personal time to 'office morale'. It's a small price to pay to put a smile on the troops' faces--we are at war, after all.
